Ingrown Nail No More: How PNA Surgery Can Help You

At Insync Health Clinic, our team of highly trained podiatrists understand the discomfort and frustration that can come with an ingrown nail. These painful conditions occur when the edge of the nail grows into the skin, causing inflammation and pressure.

Our first approach to treating ingrown nails is through conservative methods, such as removing the causing nail spicule from the toes edge. This effectively reduces pain and pressure, and is often able to address the problem before it becomes worse. In cases where an infection is present, we take swift action to deal with it and reduce any inflammation.

However, in some cases, conservative treatment may not be enough to address the problem. In these instances, our clinic offers a surgical procedure called Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA). This procedure aims to permanently remove the nail spicule and prevent it from reoccurring in the future.

The PNA procedure is performed in-clinic and is performed under local anesthesia making it completely painless. The causing nail spicule is removed down to the nail matrix, extracted, and cauterised through phenolisation, ensuring that only a small portion of the nail is removed and preventing regrowth.

With a high success rate, PNA is a highly effective solution for ingrown nails. The total surgery time is approximately an hour, and our team takes extra time post-surgery to ensure that patients are feeling comfortable and ready to return home.

PNA surgeries are well-tolerated by patients, with minimal pain post-surgery. The wound generally heals within a month, provided there are no complications. We also conduct pre-operative checks, such as reviewing medical history and medication lists, to ensure the surgery has a higher chance of success.
